New Delhi: 15 wickets fell on Day 2 of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, January 4. The Aussies bowled out for 181 runs as India managed a 4-run lead in the second innings.
Jasprit Bumrah and Co. were behind in the game after the first innings, but Indian bowlers did a brilliant job with the ball and helped the team fight back in the last Test of the series. Debutant Beau Webster was the top run-scorer for the hosts in the first innings. He scored 50 runs off 105 balls with the help of five boundaries.
Bumrah only bowled 10 overs and picked up two wickets. Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Reddy who struggled with their line and lengths pulled up their socks and picked up 5 wickets between them while Siraj also took two wickets.
India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed former Australian and English players and said that if 15 wickets fell in one day in India then all hell would have broken loose. He further added that former India cricketers are not moaners and whingers and we never complained about anything.
“When we go out and play cricket we will toughen it out. And if we are beaten, we are beaten. Overseas it’s very difficult to beat home teams. I did say that when we saw the pitch yesterday, the cows could have gone and grazed on it” said Gavaskar on ABC Grandstand Radio after day two’s play ended.
Gavaskar also said that the pitch at the SCG is not ideal for the Test match and he doesn’t see the ongoing Test match going into the fourth and fifth day.
India 141/6 at stumps on Day 2
Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal forged a 42-run partnership for the opening wicket in the second innings. As things started going in India’s favour, Boland delivered a brilliant spell for the visitors and removed Jaiswal, Rahul and Kohli.
Rishabh Pant took the charge after the Men in Blue lost 4 wickets and scored 61 runs off 33 balls. Jasprit Bumrah and Co. ended the day with a lead of 145 runs.
