New Delhi: Former world number one shuttler Kidambi Srikanth stormed into the second round of the Thailand Masters BWF Super 300 event with a straight-game win over Israel’s Danii Dubovenko. Srikanth defeated Danii 21-13, 21-18 in the men’s singles opening round clash which proved to be a one-sided affair.

This was Srikanth’s second straight victory over Dubovenko after having previously defeated him in 2024 Macau Open back in September 2024. The Indian shuttler will next face Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan in the second round clash. Srikanth did not have the best of the proceedings in the recently-concluded India Open tournament where he bowed out of the event in the opening round clash.

But in the Thailand Masters clash, the Indian shuttler dominated the game right from the word go, not giving a moment to his opponent to recover. Srikanth looked in a fine touch showcasing his class in the game. He raced to a 6-0 lead in the first game and eventually took the set in his kitty. He continued his momentum at the interval and the entire second set to win the contest comfortably.

Subramanian moves ahead in Thailand Masters

Apart from Srikanth, Indian shuttler S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian got the better off Malaysia’s June Wei Cheam in a stern three-game contest. After going down in the first set, Subramanian dominated the Malaysian opponent in the next two sets, ultimately winning the clash 15-21, 21-15, 21-19. He will be up against Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardovo in the next round.

Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty could not proceed further in the tournament as he was shown the door by Malaysia’s Jing Hong Kok 15-21, 17-21 while Mithun Manjunath lost to another Malaysian in Sholeh Aidil 14-21, 13-21 in men’s singles. In the mixed doubles contest, the pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde defeated Thailand pair of Weeraphat Phakjarung and Sararat Chueboca 21-8, 21-16 to move to the second round.
