India were in deep trouble as they lost three wickets in a span of four overs on Day 2, but on the third day, after Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja faltered, the Indian innings were handled by 21-year-old Reddy and Sundar. He hit a classy four to Mitchell Starc towards the point region to bring up his half-century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This was not it as the youngster seems to be a fan of Indian actor Allu Arjun – he pulled off the iconic “Pushpa” celebration.

Even the BCCI tweeted about his celebration, quoting, “Flower nahi, fire hai (He is not a flower, he is fire),” a famous dialog from the Hindi dub of the film.

Rain interrupts play at MCG

Just as the third day was heading towards the end of the second session, it suddenly turned dark at the MCG and it also started drizzling. The umpires took the players off the field and the ground staff ran into the field with covers. Early tea was taken as Nitish Reddy walked to the dressing room with an unbeaten score of 85 off 119 balls while Washington Sundar scored 40 off 115 balls, being a brilliant support to Reddy.

As the halt occurred, India trailed Australia by 148 runs. The two batters were capable of taking India past 275 runs to avoid follow-on and went on to add more runs to the Indian scoreboard. The 100-run stand between Sundar and Reddy is the highest eighth wicket partnership for India in Australia and Reddy’s 85* (till Tea) is the second-highest score by a no. 8 batter for India against Australia.

Nitish Reddy looked strong as ever for India as he slammed his maiden international fifty in the ongoing Melbourne Test against Australia. He celebrated the achievement in a unique style.
