Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki Passes Away After Long Battle with Cancer

New Delhi: Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has passed away after a two-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer. The news was shared by her husband, Dennis Troper, on Facebook. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his wife of 26 years, who was also the mother of their five children. 

In his post, he described Susan as not only a brilliant mind and loving mother but also a cherished friend to many. He mentioned that while their family is heartbroken, they are grateful for the time they had with her.

He wrote in a Twitter Post, “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki’s passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer. Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time,”

Google CEO Sundar Pichai Pays Tribute

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai paid tribute to Susan on X (formerly Twitter), mentioning her role in Google’s history and her incredible impact on the world. Pichai shared that he, like many others, was deeply saddened by her passing and noted that Susan was an extraordinary leader and friend.

He also wrote on X, ““Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her. She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I’m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts with her family. RIP Susan,” Pichai wrote.

Susan Wojcicki’s Battle with Cancer

Susan Wojcicki was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer two years ago. Throughout her career, she made numerous contributions to the tech industry, especially during her time as YouTube’s CEO. 

Who was Susan Wojcicki?

Wojcicki was one of Google’s longest-serving employees and a leading female executive in Silicon Valley. From 2014 to 2023, she led YouTube, turning it into a major platform for billions and launching numerous careers. Prior to that, she played a key role in developing systems that helped digital publishers profit from ads, solidifying Google’s central role in online advertising.

Susan Wojcicki announced her departure from YouTube in 2023 to focus on her family, though her health condition was not publicly known at the time.
