New Delhi: Jannik Sinner put on a dominant display at Roland Garros on Saturday, brushing aside Czech opponent Jiri Lehecka to reach the last 16 of the French Open. The world number one was in ruthless form on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, easing past Lehecka 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half.

Sinner barely put a foot wrong winning 94% of his first-serve points and dropping just nine points on serve throughout the match. His return game was equally impressive, highlighted by a string of clean winners that left Lehecka unable to find answers.

“I was playing really, really well, especially in the first two and a half sets,” Sinner said afterwards. “He served well at times, but I’m happy with my level.” He added that the win was a gift to his coach, Simone Vagnozzi, who had celebrated his birthday the day before.

The 23-year-old Italian now faces a fourth-round meeting with Andrey Rublev. Rublev progressed via walkover after France’s Arthur Fils withdrew with injury. Sinner leads their head-to-head 6-3 and will be looking to extend his 17-match winning streak at Grand Slam tournaments, which stretches back to his titles at last year’s US Open and this year’s Australian Open.

Pegula and Andreeva also shines

In the women’s draw, Jessica Pegula kept her tournament hopes alive with a gritty three-set win over Marketa Vondrousova. The American third seed overcame a slow start to prevail 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, setting up a last-16 clash with either Lois Boisson or Elsa Jacquemot.

Pegula, who missed last year’s French Open due to injury, is hoping to match or better her previous best result in Paris, a quarter-final appearance three years ago. “I’m just happy to be in the second week again,” she said. “Every match is a challenge, but I feel like I’m building confidence.”

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva continued her breakout season with a straightforward win over Yulia Putintseva, 6-3, 6-1. The 18-year-old, now into her fifth second-week appearance in just nine Grand Slam tournaments, looked composed throughout the match.

“I felt a little nervous at the start, but once I settled in, I felt like I could control the match,” Andreeva said. She will face Daria Kasatkina next, who now competes for Australia after switching allegiance from Russia. Kasatkina defeated Paula Badosa in straight sets to book her place in the fourth round.

Jannik Sinner continues his Grand Slam dominance with a commanding win at Roland Garros, while Jessica Pegula battles through to the last 16.  Tennis Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
