New Delhi: Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian has been handed his maiden Test call-up for India and added to the squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Kotian has been called up as a replacement for R Ashwin after the legendary spinner announced his retirement from international cricket last week.
Ashwin drew curtains on his glorious international career following the conclusion of the 3rd Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. Ashwin quit all forms of the game and retired as the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 wickets in 106 Test matches, behind only the legendary Anil Kumble.
As per a report in Sportstar, Kotian has received his maiden call-up and will join the India squad in Melbourne ahead of the 4th Test against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Kotian will leave for Australia on Tuesday. His addition to the squad comes after Ashwin returned home from Australia immediately after announcing his retirement from international cricket.
26-year-old Kotian is a right-arm off-spinner and a more than capable right-hand batter, who plays for Mumbai in the domestic circuit. Kotian was part of the Shreyas Iyer-led Mumbai squad that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 recently. He was also part of Mumbai’s squad in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy but will part ways with the team to head to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
