New Delhi: Vinod Kambli’s health has become a topic of discussion after the former Indian cricketer was admitted to a private hospital in Thane last week. Kambli, who was considered the next big thing in the cricketing world at some point, was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane last Saturday after his health deteriorated and the cricketer complained about intolerable pain.
After the player’s professional career took a hit long back and did not get the perfect take off, Kambli has since then been battling multiple health issues, with his alcohol addiction considered to be the main reason behind all the problems. As per multiple media reports, the former left-handed batter was admitted to a rehabilitation centre multiple times but still could not let go of his drinking habit, which took a toll on his health eventually.
From multiple heart attacks in 2013 to brain clots in 2024
It all started when Vinod Kambli had two heart attacks in the year 2013, with stress and drinking addiction considered to be the cause for them. Kambli himself had stated long back in an interview that he suffered multiple heart attacks, which was the beginning of his deteriorating health. The former cricketer was not in news since then, especially for his health issues, till recently he hit the headlines again after he was spotted struggling to stand up and walk.
After an examination from doctors and few days of rest, Kambli was spotted at an event in Mumbai, where he also met his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar. But recently last week, he was part of the news once again after being admitted to a private hospital in Thane. The ex-cricketer got admitted because his condition was critical due to a urine infection, according to Dr Vivek Trivedi, Thane hospital.
Puss in bladder, clots in brain
Dr Trivedi who’s looking after Kambli at the hospital said that he had puss accumulated in the bladder which caused a lot of pain and uneasiness. It was later removed but few medical procedures that had to be conducted suggested that Kambli had clots in his brain. The medical team decided to go for a MRI to get clarity on the brain clots on Tuesday but the cricketer developed acute fever and the procedure had to be postponed.
Dr Trivedi of the Thane hospital has also revealed that Kambli is suffering from Hypokalemia too, which is excess potassium content in his blood and the condition is possibly due to his heart problems a decade back. On December 25, Wednesday, it was revealed by the hospital authorities that the 52-year-old cricketer is doing fine and will be discharged soon.
