New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Team India. Gambhir requested BCCI to choose his staff to manage the team and now he’s advocating for the inclusion of Ryan Ten Doeschate in his coaching staff, as per the Cricbuzz report.
The Dutch recently worked as a fielding coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with Gautam Gambhir during the IPL 2024. The former Netherlands all-rounder is also part of KKR’s subsidiaries in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Major League Cricket (MLC) and ILT20.
The former KKR mentor praised ten Doeschate during the IPL 2024 and said that he’s the greatest team man ever he played with and can take a bullet for him “When I talk about selflessness, I have never said this in 42 years of my career. And I wanted to say this. The greatest team man I ever played with, the most selfless human being, someone I can take a bullet for, someone who I can trust for life” Gambhir said in a KKR video.
Gambhir also said that ten Doeschate taught him selflessness after carrying drinks with no disappointment on his face “I can tell you this because in 2011, my first game as a KKR captain, we only had four overseas (players) available. And this man had a fabulous 50-over World Cup. And we went in that game with only three overseas players. He was carrying drinks in that game with no disappointment on his face. He taught me selflessness. Ryan ten Doeschate” Gambhir added.
BCCI wants T Dilip to continue as the fielding coach and in that case, ten Doeschate can be brought in as an assistant coach of the team but Abhishek Nayar likely to join Gambhir’s staff as an assistant coach. However, Cricbuzz report also confirmed that discussions are underway in BCCI for ten Doeschate’s role.
Abhishek Nayar set to join India as assistant coach
Abhishek Nayar who was also part of KKR’s successful IPL 2024 campaign is likely to join Team India as an assistant coach. Nayar was suggested by Gambhir for various positions in his coaching staff and according to reports the BCCI has already reached out to Nayar.
Gambhir and his coaching staff will take charge of the team from India’s tour of Sri Lanka consisting 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
