New Delhi: Geoff Allardice has decided to step down as the CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC) just weeks before the commencement of the all-important Champions Trophy 2025. A board member of the global governing body has indicated that his failure to present a clear picture of the host Pakistan’s lack of preparation ahead of the marquee event is one of the many reasons behind the decision.
The 57-year-old administrator joined the international cricket body back in 2012 as a General Manger of Cricket. Allardice landed in the job from Cricket Australia (CA), where he served as the Cricket Operations Manager. He was appointed CEO of the ICC in November 2021, after having served as acting CEO for eight months.
Privilege to have served as the CEO: Allardice
In his statement, the outgoing CEO said that it was absolute honour to serve the ICC at the position and he is proud of the results they achieved during his tenure as the chief of the global governing body.
“It has been a privilege to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council and I am incredibly proud of the results we have achieved, from enhancing the global reach of cricket to the commercial foundation put in place for ICC Members,” Allardice said in a statement.
“I believe this is the right time for me to step down and pursue new challenges,” he added.
Geoff Allardice has resigned as chief executive of the ICC after four years in the role, citing a desire to “pursue new challenges”.

The official statement from the ICC did not mention the exact reason for Allardice’s departure but a top source confirmed to news agency PTI that the development had been building up for a while. It is being learnt that because of the US leg of the ICC T20 World Cup, which was a massive flop in terms of playing conditions and it also exceeded budget, this decision could have taken.
