Gigantic attendance at India-Pakistan women’s T20 WC clash sets historic record

New Delhi: The India vs Pakistan clash in the women’s T20 World Cup on October 6 set a new record for the highest attendance at a group stage match in the history of the showpiece event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated on Thursday. The match which was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which India won by 6 wickets, was watched by as many as 15,935 spectators.

The ICC notified this in a release that this clash has set a never-seen-before record in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup. “The India versus Pakistan match at the Dubai International Stadium on 6 October set a new record for the highest attendance at a group stage match in Women’s T20 World Cup history,” the ICC said in a statement.

Attendance showcases love for IND-PAK rivalry

The amount of people that accumulated at the stadium to the witness the epic battle showcases the love and fondness of people for the epic rivalry between the two neighbouring nations. The world governing body ICC also said that the women’s T20 World Cup 2024 drew 91,030 fans in total, an impressive 30 per cent increase from the previous edition.

Meanwhile, the classic final between New Zealand and South Africa at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday saw 21, 457 fans in attendance, an increase of 68 per cent from the previous final in South Africa, confirmed the ICC.

“The group stages and semi-finals also witnessed strong support, attracting 69,573 fans, a 21% rise compared to the previous edition, highlighting the expanding global appeal of women’s cricket,” said the release. The apex cricketing body also said that the kind of turnout witnessed was an indication of the growing interest of masses in women’s cricket and in the coming time, this interest seems to take another leap.
