New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin praised Rishabh Pant’s sensational return to Test cricket. Pant scored his 6th Test century against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
R Ashwin’s all-around contribution helped Team India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. He scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings and also stitched a 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja and helped the Men in Blue recover from 144/6 to 376/6.
Ashwin picked up 6 wickets in the second innings and surpassed West Indies legendary bowler Courtney Walsh (519 wickets) in the list of leading wicket-takers in Test cricket. Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep also made important contributions to the team’s victory.
Pant played a Duleep Trophy match and scored a fifty for India B before returning to the national side. He looked promising in the first innings of the Test match and scored 39 runs off 52 balls.
‘Rishabh is entertaining’: Ravichandran Ashwin
R Ashwin hailed Pant’s return to Test cricket and said that his form and ability were never in question and the way he put himself on the field was just miraculous. He further added that there was no pressure on him and it’s good for Indian cricket that he is back.
“I think Rishabh’s form was ever going to be in question at all. It’s the way he has comeback and all and put himself on the field, that’s just miraculous. Which is probably God-sent. If I can say that, it depends on the belief of the people. I don’t think there was any pressure on him, I think he batted really well in the 1st innings. Good that he is back and scored runs the way he usually does and scores” Ashwin said in the post-match press conference in Chennai.
Ashwin further said that Pant is entertaining on the field and he is gonna get better as a cricketer. He also said that Pant never lacked confidence and always got the backing of the team.
“He is entertaining. Not the greatest of sights people sitting behind him and waiting to bat. You don’t know when your turn will come. Completely entertaining. But I think he is only gonna get better. He never lacked confidence and always got the backing of the team, so. So ya, it was always going to happen, never a doubt” Ashwin added.
