New Delhi: Team India cruised to their third T20 World Cup final, hammering England by 68 runs in the crucial semi-final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday. The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 saw complete dominance from the Men in Blue as they set up a final with South Africa which will be played in Barbados on Saturday. England, who knocked India out of the 2022 edition of the T20 showpiece, ended up with the same fate as India scripted a brilliant revenge.
The game saw many interruptions due to rain which also brought in a late start for the game. However, the game wasn’t shortened at all considering the day factor in the Caribbean and it was a full 20-over per-side contest. England had opted to field first, giving India and the fans a scare alike. Keeping in mind the past record, the fear was obvious but what followed next is a thing of beauty.
Indian spinners run riot
India defied the odds to first register a daunting total of 171/7 in their stipulated 20 overs, courtesy of skipper Rohit Sharma who scored his second successive half-century in the marquee event followed by a 36-ball 47 from Suryakumar Yadav and a crucial 23 by the Indian deputy Hardik Pandya. The chase was clearly possible for a side like England, if not a cakewalk but the Indian spinners had some other plans.
Spearheaded by Axar Patel, England were 46/4 under 8 overs as the all-rounder struck thrice off the first delivery of his first three overs, making it a one-sided affair. Kuldeep Yadav weighed in with his wizardry in the middle overs as he picked up three wickets as well. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t keep himself out of the game, picking up two wickets as India halted England at 103 in 16.4 overs to move one step closer to the coveted ICC trophy.
With the Men in Blue’s convincing win, the former Indian cricketers were all praise and shared their views on social media. Here’s how they reacted –
On a challenging pitch, India batted brilliantly to reach 171. @akshar2026‘s crucial strikes on the first ball of his first 3 overs & @imkuldeep18‘s middle-over wizardry spun England out.
Our total of 171 was slightly above the par score of 167, but our bowling made it feel far… pic.twitter.com/u49wg80JgY

India throughly deserve to be in the final .. The best team in tournament so far .. Was always going to hard for England on this pitch .. India just so much better on lower slower spinning pitches .. #T20IWorldCup
