New Delhi: After the culmination of the group stage games of the T20 World Cup, the top eight teams out of the total 20 will battle it out in the super 8 stage of the showpiece event. While the round two of the T20 World Cup kickstarts with the United States vs South Africa encounter on Wednesday, India play their first match against Afghanistan a day later on Thursday at Barbados.
India, Afghanistan’s remarkable campaign in group stage
Both the teams have had a wonderful campaign in the marquee event so far with India emerging victorious in all the matches while the Afghans winning three games out of their total four. Indian gave a perfect kickstart to their campaign with a win over Ireland in the opener followed by a close win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their next contest. Although hosts USA proved to be a tough opponent in their third game, yet the Men in Blue held their nerves to beat them. Their last match against Canada was abandoned due to wet outfield.
For Afghanistan, the loss against West Indies in their final group game was the only setback in their otherwise successful campaign. The Rashid Khan-led side beat Uganda in their tournament opener convincingly and followed it up with a victory against New Zealand. Afghanistan beat Papua New Guinea in their third group contest to bag a position in the super 8 stage of the event.
