New Delhi: Indian batter KL Rahul scripted history on Saturday after he became the fastest Indian player to smash 200 sixes in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Rahul attained the feat in the IPL clash between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi stadium. Rahul thus joined India skipper and Mumbai Indian batter Rohit Sharma, CSK veteran MS Dhoni and star RCB player Virat Kohli in the elusive list.

He became the sixth Indian cricketer to smash at least 200 maximums in the cash-rich league. The 32-year-old batter and DC wicketkeeper needed just one six to join the elite league and he achieved it by hammering Titans pacer Mohammed Siraj for huge maximum on the third balls of the third over after the Capitals were put into bat first in the 35th game of the Indian Premier League. Rahul could just score 28 runs in the match.

Meanwhile, the record hitting most number of sixes in the league is held by former legendary player Chris Gayle, who has smashed as many as 357 sixes in 142 IPL matches. Gayle represented KKR, RCB and PBKS in his career. Gayle is followed by Rohit who has 286 sixes to his name while Kohli is placed third with 282 maximums. Dhoni is fourth on the elusive list with 260 sixes while AB de Villiers (251), and David Warner (236) also feature.

Meanwhile, the Capitals did well with the bat as they accumulated 203/8 in 20 overs giving the Titans a target of 204 runs. Skipper Axar Patel top-scored for the side with 39 runs while Ashutosh Sharma slammed 37 runs. Karun Nair and Tristan Stubbs also contributed 31 runs each. Prasidh Krishna excelled with the ball picking four wickets.
