New Delhi: Adani SportsLine organized a press conference of their team Gujarat Giants for the new skipper and vice-captain and also Giants unveiled their new jersey for season 11. Giants coach Ram Mehar Singh was also presented in the press conference and announced the experienced defender Neeraj Kumar as their new captain.
Neeraj was also with coach Ram Mehar in the Patna Pirates in PKL season 8.
Giants announced Guman Singh as their new vice-captain of the team. Guman was bought for a whopping Rs1.97 crores in the season 11 auction. Guman was also reuniting with coach Ram Mehar after the Patna Pirates campaign. Ram Mehar showed faith in the young raider and Guman might lead the raid pack of the team in this season.
“Neeraj Kumar is a very powerful player and personality in Indian kabaddi, and I am sure his presence will add another dimension to our game. Neeraj and the rest of the squad are working very hard in pre-season, and the team is also very happy to have him as the skipper. I am confident we will do well this season, and I want to also thank the management for extending to us a tremendous amount of support,” said Ram Mehar Singh, Coach, of Gujarat Giants.
Fazel Atrachali was released by the Giants before the auction and didn’t show any interest in bringing out their former skipper. Neeraj is one of the experienced players in the Giants side and when the Giants bought him in the auction, some fans knew he would be the captaincy contender of the team.
Neeraj was also leading the Patna Pirates side in the previous season. He debuted in the PKL season 6 played 80 matches in his PKL career and earned 174 points. Neeraj had a great first couple of seasons but now his form also dipped and now with the captaincy of the new team he will be making most of the points.
Meanwhile, Guman also had a great run in the PKL. Giants are chasing their maiden PKL title and they also unveiled their new jersey for the season with an orange and red color combination. Giants had the big purse before going to auction and also made most of it in the PKL season 11 auction.
