Guru Arjan Dev Ji Shaheedi Diwas 2024 date: His martyrdom is commemorated on the fourth day of the Shukla Paksha in Jyeshtha. This year, Guru Arjan Dev Ji Shaheedi Diwas falls on June 10.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji was born in Goindwal (Amritsar) to Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Guru of Sikhism, and Mata Bhaani Ji.

Guru Arjan Dev is revered as the 5th Guru of Sikhism. His profound devotion to religious and human values, kindness, dedication, and purity led Guru Ramdas Ji to appoint him as the 5th Guru.

Guru Arjan Dev edited the Guru Granth Sahib, contributing 2,218 hymns in 30 ragas. He compiled the bani (sacred hymns) of all the Sikh Gurus and saints from other religions into a single volume, which he named ‘Granth Sahib’. This holy book was installed in the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). Alongside his spiritual contributions, he also dedicated himself to serving the poor and the country.

A saintly soul, Guru Arjan Dev Ji sacrificed his life to uphold human ideals and was a staunch advocate for harmony among saints. In 1606, he attained martyrdom while reciting “Tera Kiya Meetha Lage, Hari Nam Padarath Nanak Mange.”
