New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has sparked speculations about his potential comeback to Test cricket. He posted a video of himself bowling with the red ball during a training session in England.

Hardik has delivered many match-winning performances with the bat and ball for the country in white-ball format but he hasn’t played Test cricket since 2018. He had a great start to his Test career but due to injuries he only managed to play 11 tests and prioritised his white-ball career.

Hardik has scored 532 runs in 18 innings, including one century and four half-centuries. He also took 17 wickets with a best figure of 5 for 28. He last played Test Cricket for India in September 2018.

The recent video of Hardik bowling with the red ball has become a topic discussion of among fans quickly. With many thinking about his potential return to the longest format. Although the video suggests that the all-rounder is preparing for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh in October. However, it has raised many questions about whether Hardik has communicated his intentions regarding Test cricket to the team management.

The selectors and BCCI have always been concerned about Hardik’s fitness and his comeback to Test cricket may be challenging. He has played only two T20I matches after winning the T20 World Cup in June. He opted out of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to personal reasons but if Hardik is planning to make a comeback in Test cricket he needs to play domestic red ball cricket.

‘There should be an attempt to convince Hardik to play Test cricket’: Sunil Gavaskar

Earlier, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said that there should be an attempt to convince Hardik to play Tests for India and if he can bowl ten overs and bat, the team could become invincible and beat Australia on their home soil and can also go on to win the WTC final.

“Yes, absolutely, they can. I think in the next two months, there should be an attempt to convince Hardik Pandya to play Test cricket. If he bowls ten overs a day to go with his batting, this Indian team could become invincible, and they can surely go on and win the WTC and beat Australia in Australia” Gavaskar said in a Revsportz interview.
