New Delhi: As India awaits the release of the Union Budget 2024-25, the country finds itself at a pivotal role in carrying immense potential and responsibility. Budget is pivotal to tackling problems like healthcare, education and unemployment, along with this, the government will have to make sure that proper funds are allotted to encourage the underprivileged areas and uplift marginalised communities.
The Indian healthcare sector has come a long way in delivering the best quality service. This is evident in the growth and proliferation of private healthcare chains which today constitute 13 per cent of the private healthcare market.
Ahead of the Budget, Dr Sanjeev Singh Medical Director of Amrita Hospital, Faridabad told News9, “As the nation eagerly anticipates the upcoming budget, the health sector remains a focal point of discussion. The health sector is not just a critical component of public welfare but also a significant contributor to the nation’s GDP. Currently, the healthcare sector contributes approximately 1.7 per cent to the GDP.”
“The budget should aim to elevate the healthcare sector’s GDP contribution to around 5 per cent over the next few years,” added Dr Singh.
Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure
An increased budget allocation is important for building and encouraging hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centres. Such investments will not only improve access to healthcare services but will also boost the overall quality of life of patients.
Digital Health Mission
Efforts are underway to implement a digital health record system, ensuring seamless access to patient data and improved and ensured continuity of care. Campaigns on hygiene, nutrition, and regular health screenings should be initiated.
Public-Private Partnerships
PPPs by offering tax incentives and simplified regulatory frameworks, bringing collaboration expertise and funding, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery. By focusing on infrastructure, preventive care, research, workforce development, and initiating public-private partnerships, we can build a robust healthcare system in the country
