New Delhi: A famous phrase goes, “You become what you eat.” Well, the saying holds a significant truth, especially when considering the impact of a diet rich in processed foods. Processed foods are often high in sugar, unhealthy, fats and artificial additives, which can profoundly affect our health. To examine the same and the evolving consumption trends in India, Farmley the dry fruits and nuts specialist company unveiled the first Healthy Snacking Report 2024. According to the report, 39 per cent of people snack twice as much on weekends as compared to weekdays and 9 out of 10 people expressed a desire to make the switch to healthier snacking choices.
The report was released at the Indian Healthy Snacking Summit held in New Delhi. The survey has been conducted on over 6000+ people across the country, including representatives from all age groups boomers, Gen X, millennials and GenZ.
67 per cent of Indians prefer makhana and dry fruits as the go-to healthy snacks
Makhanas and dry fruits have emerged as stars in the healthy snacking segment, with 67 per cent reaching out for a bowl of these nutrient powerhouses, the report noted. India is seeing the makhanas in India, 59 per cent of millennials called it their trusted snack, with 67 per cent reaching out of bowl of their nutrients. This was followed by Gen Z 49 per cent and GenX 47 per cent indicating its popularity across all age groups. Additionally, over 70 per cent revealed that their favourite time to snack was their evening cup of tea or coffee.

Snacking in India is not just about convenience or hunger pangs, the report revealed that millennials and GenZ prefer more bold flavours like peri peri, and the older generations find comfort in classics like salt and black pepper. Moreover, 39 per cent of people snack twice as much at weekends as compared to weekends.
Weekends are the time when everyone is relaxed and the extra time for indulging or simply the joy of having the family around. Whatever the reason, weekends in India are a designated time to loosen the belt and enjoy some guilt-free snacking.
