New Delhi: North India is currently facing fierce heatwave, with soaring temperature each passing day. On Sunday, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan ans Bihar witnessed 48 degrees Celsius. Amid this condition, when people have to head out for meeting their everyday activities it becomes essential to take care of our health.

Dr Vigyan Mishra Chief of lab -Neuberg Diagnostics, Noida told News9, “Delhi has recently experienced an unseasonably high-temperature spike, posing unique challenges for people heading out for office. If you plan to go office today, taking several precautions to protect yourself from the heat and ensure a safe and comfortable experience is crucial.”

Here are some crucial tips to keep in mind:

1. Stay Hydrated: High temperatures can quickly lead to dehydration, hence ensure you drink plenty of water before leaving home. Always make sure that you carry a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated while travelling. Avoid sugary drinks and carbonated beverages, as they can lead to dehydration.

2. Dress Appropriately: Wear light, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing.  Choose cotton fabric clothes as they offer better air circulation. Opt for light-coloured clothes that reflect sunlight rather than absorb it. Also, try to carry a wide-brimmed hat or carry an umbrella with you to protect yourself from direct sunlight.

3. Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on all exposed skin. Reapply the sunscreen in a couple of hours, particularly if you sweat a lot. Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays and minimises the risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage.

4. Timing is Key: Try to leave early in the morning when temperatures are typically cooler. It is better to avoid the peak afternoon hours, which are generally between 11 AM and 4 PM.

5. Take Breaks: Don’t hesitate to take short breaks in a shaded area to cool down if you are travelling through personal convenience.  It’s important to listen to your body and rest if you feel dizzy or weak.

6. Carry Essentials: Carry a small bag with essentials such as a fan or a handkerchief soaked in water to cool off. Keep some snacks while travelling like fruits or energy bars to maintain your energy levels.

7. Watch for Heat-Related Illnesses: Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which include excessive sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headaches.
