The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning stating that a severe heatwave is predicted in the northwest part of the country until May 29. Since relief from this extreme weather is highly unlikely, you must continue to take care of your health. Dr Ramya Sampath, Regional Head – Clinical Services, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, Chennai told News9, “Hot weather generally tends to cause irritation and dryness hence contact lens users are advised to not exceed the daily recommended time duration, a minimum of 6 hours to a maximum of 10-12 hours, depending on the type of contact lens used and to use suitable eyedrops such as Lubricants according to doctor’s recommendations to prevent burning sensation and irritation.”

“Extended use of contact lens and improper handling of contact lens can lead to Corneal Infections.”

Wear sunglasses: Sunglasses are a form of protective eyewear designed to prevent the bright sunlight that can damage the eyes.

Stay hydrated: During this extremely hot weather, it is better to keep yourself hydrated as it is good for the overall body

Use eye drops: If you find yourself with dry eyes during summer, it is good to hydrate your eyes by using eye drops. It is soothing and can provide coolness to the eyes.
