‘He’s focused on winning games for India’: Former RCB coach praises Virat Kohli

New Delhi: Virat Kohli failed to deliver big performances in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He scored only 6 and 17 runs in the opening Test but made a good comeback in the second Test and scored 47 runs off just 35 balls and remained unbeaten on 29 runs in the second innings in Kanpur. The star Indian batter will be looking to score big runs in the three-match Test series against New Zealand before travelling to Australia.

The five-match Test series against the Aussies will be crucial for India and Kohli will be the key player for the team. He has an excellent record against Australia, scoring 2042 runs in 25 Test matches. He has also notched up eight centuries against the Aussies.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start on November 22 with the Test to be played in Perth. The pink ball Test will be played at Adelaide Oval on December 6. The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy will be played in Brisbane on December 14 while the traditional Boxing Day Test will be played at the MCG on December 26. The last and final match will start on January 3 in Sydney.

‘He just wants to try and win games for India’: Mike Hesson

Former New Zealand and RCB head coach Mike Hesson on Jio Cinema said that Kohli is at that stage in his career where he wants to win matches for his country. He further added that his ability to hold a tempo in Australia is important and if he is batting from 30 to 60 overs, he won’t let the game drift.

“I think Virat Kohli is at that stage in his career where he just wants to try and win games for India. And I think that’s a dangerous stage for other sides, because if he’s doing that rather than focusing on numbers, the big scores will come naturally” Mike Hesson said on Jio Cinema.

Hesson also said that Kohli is looking in fine touch and even though he didn’t score many runs in the Bangladesh series, he was looking good.

“He was in fine touch, and even though he didn’t get big scores against Bangladesh, he looked like he was moving well and getting into good positions. After playing in New Zealand, heading to Australia will suit him, as he thrives in those conditions” Hesson added.
