New Delhi: Star Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is in great form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. He suffered multiple injuries in a life-threatening car accident and made his comeback in cricket after more than 14 months.
Pant had a sensational IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals (DC) scoring 446 runs at an average of 40 in 13 matches and was extremely good behind the stumps. His brilliant performance in the IPL led to his selection in India’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad.
He was promoted to No. 3 by the management and scored some crucial runs for the team in the T20 World Cup. In the first match against Ireland, Pant scored 36 runs off 26 balls and against Pakistan, he amassed 42 runs off 31 balls. In the Super 8 match against Afghanistan, he scored 20 runs off 11 balls while he also took some brilliant catches behind the wicket.
‘Rishabh Pant came back so strongly’: Sunil Gavaskar
Speaking on Star Sports, Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar praised Rishabh Pant and said that it’s a miracle (the way he came back) and all of the cricket fraternity was praying for him.
“It’s a miracle, you know? I mean, we all were so concerned when we heard about the accident. We heard about the severity of the injuries and we were all praying for him just to be ok”.
Gavaskar also praised Pant’s fitness and said that he lost a lot of weight and he’s looking so good and fit. “But not only has he been ok, he came back so strongly. He’s lost a little bit of weight, which was probably needed and it looked at one stage that he was just maybe getting a little overweight. He’s lost a lot of weight and he’s looking so good, so fit”. Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
India will face Bangladesh in their next Super 8 match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 22.
