‘His career could well be coming to an end’: Ex-AUS star on Rohit Sharma’s Test stint

New Delhi: India captain Rohit Sharma just managed to score 3 runs on Day 2 of the fourth Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, December 27. He tried to play a pull shot against the Australian captain Pat Cummins but only managed to get a top edge of the bat and Boland took a good catch.

Rohit has been struggling to score since the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He has scored only 152 runs in the last 14 Test innings at an average of 11.69. The Indian captain has scored 610 runs in 14* Test matches at an average of 25.41 in 2024.

Rohit missed the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which India won by 295 runs in Perth. He returned to the team in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval. His poor form continued in the series as he scored just 22 runs in four innings at an average of 5.50.

He promoted himself to open the innings at the MCG after struggling to score runs in the middle order. The change in batting order didn’t help Rahul who went back to the dressing room after scoring just 24 (42).

‘Unless Rohit Sharma can do something in the last three innings, his career could well be coming to an end’: Mark Waugh

Mark Waugh on Fox Sports said that if Rohit Sharma failed to score runs in the last three innings of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, his career could well be coming to an end.

“Well, I think he will be now, I think. Unless Rohit Sharma can do something in the last three innings on this tour, I think his career could well be coming to an end. In the balance, certainly” said Mark Waugh.

Kerry O’Keeffe also criticised the Indian captain and said that it was really a big mistake by him. He further added that it was Rohit’s favourite shot but it was too early in the innings as he was not used to the pace and bounce of the pitch.

Former Australia cricketer feels India captain Rohit Sharma’s Test career is certainly coming to an end if he fails to score runs in the remaining matches of the ongoing series against Australia.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
