New Delhi: New Zealand batter Rachin Ravondra suffered an injury on his forehead while fielding during New Zealand’s tri-series ODI against Pakistan in Lahore.

He was manning the deep square leg region when he was hit on the head while attempting to catch Khushdil Shah’s shot in the 37th over.

Shah attempted a slog-sweep off Michael Bracewell, only to hit it straight to Ravindra. But the Kiwi player seemed to have lost the flight of the ball in the newly-installed floodlights of the Gaddafi stadium.

It resulted in the ball hitting him on the forehead and was seemingly dazed as blood flew down his face and the team’s medical staff rushed to his aid.

The stretcher was brought in though Ravindra walked off the field as Pakistan team’s doctor also rushed to help.

Ravindra lay on the ground while he received medical treatment and held a towel on hos head as he got a warm applause from the spectators while walking off.

‘Laceration’

“Ravindra was forced from the field after being struck in the forehead by the ball attempting a catch in the 38th over,” a statement from New Zealand Cricket said.

“He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first HIA (Head Injury Assessment) well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes.”

Earlier, Ravindra had scored 25 runs off 19 balls as New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in get a winning start in the tri-series also involving Pakistan.

Glenn Phillips was the star of NZ’s win as he slammed hos maiden ton, an unbeaten 106 off 74 balls, while Daryl Mitchell smashed 81 to lift them to 330/6 and then bowl out the hosts for 252 in 47.5 overs.
