New Delhi: Following an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, various media outlets have reported on the incident with differing narratives. A day after the horrific attack, which the FBI is investigating as “domestic terrorism”, the New York Times, while referring to Trump, called on voters to reject him in the November 4 US elections.
Trump, who was seen pumping his fist and seemed like shouting “fight, fight, fight,” before he was whisked to safety following the shooting incident, was being seen as a leader who was expected to return much stronger like never before, Purnima Voria, former advisor to ex-US President Barack Obama, told Republic on Sunday.

The Washington Post
The Washington Post in its report claimed that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other pro-Trump billionaires have helped in setting a shooting narrative. It further wrote that Musk and hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman were instrumental in fueling storylines about the assassination attempt on Trump.
As the news of attack on Trump left the world in shock, several videos from the shooting scene flooded the social media, including X, which saw many people voicing their concerns in the wake of the attack.
Sharing screenshot of the how the media covered the attack, Musk claimed “The legacy media is a pure propaganda machine”, adding “𝕏 is the voice of the people.”
The New York Times
“He failed the tests of leadership and betrayed America. Voters must reject him in November,” the New York Times wrote on its Opinion page. While targeting the the anti-Trump opinion piece by New York Times, Musk tweeted, “The New York Times just published this about Trump today. They are truly callous and despicable human beings. Not a shred of empathy.”
On Sunday, Musk also revealed that he had faced two assassination attempts in the past eight months. In a post, Musk stated, “Dangerous times ahead. Two people (on separate occasions) have already tried to kill me in the past 8 months. They were arrested with guns about 20 minutes’ drive from Tesla HQ in Texas.”
Musk also endorsed Trump for President by donating to his campaign and saying, “The last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.”
Describing the shooting incident as “extreme incompetence or deliberate”, he also sought the resignation of the head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail. He also raised questions over the security lapse during Trump’s rally.

The Cable News Network (CNN) stated that Donald Trump was rushed off stage by Secret Service officials after he fell down on stage at a rally.
The Atlantic
“The Gunman and the Would-Be Dictator” was the headline given by the Atlantic on its opinion piece. The article presented Trump as someone “who has rejoiced in violence to others” in the past. The story claimed that when then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked, trump had “jeered and mocked.”
The story read, “When a madman hammered nearly to death the husband of then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump jeered and mocked. One of Trump’s sons and other close Trump supporters avidly promoted false claims that Paul Pelosi had somehow brought the onslaught upon himself through a sexual misadventure.”
Writing about another instance, highlighting the bad image created by Trump, it wrote that when accused were held for orchestrating Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s kidnap, Trump belittled the incident and disparaged Whitmer as a political rival.
The story further read, “After authorities apprehended a right-wing-extremist plot to abduct Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Trump belittled the threat at a rally. He disparaged Whitmer as a political enemy. His supporters chanted “Lock her up.” Trump laughed and replied, “Lock them all up.”
Many other media house reported that Trump was escorted after loud noises were heard at the Pennsylvania rally.
