How to update Aadhaar for free before deadline? Step-by-step guide

New Delhi: The last date to update Aadhaar card for free has once again been extended. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline until June 14, 2024. After this date, you will have to pay a fee of Rs 50 to update your Aadhaar card online. Remember, this free service is available for online updation only. You will still have to pay a fee if you choose to update it offline by visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Aadhaar Update

There are many things that you can update online. For example, if you want to change your address in Aadhaar card, you will need valid address proof or an address validation letter. You can also update your Biometrics i.e FingerPrints, iris and photograph online for your existing Aadhaar. But if you want to change your linked number in Aadhaar, then you will have to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You can check the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment centre at Bhuvan portal.

Will Aadhar become invalid?

Another question that bothers many is whether their Aadhaar card will become invalid, if not updated. The answer is NO. UIDAI has assured users that Aadhaar card will not become invalid even if they have not updated it in the last 10 years. But UIDAI suggests to update Aadhaar card every decade.

Steps for Aadhaar card update online

Now, if you want to update your Aadhaar card for free. Then these are the steps to follow

Visit UIDAI website (https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/ssup/)
Click on the ‘Login’ button and login by updating the 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Click on ‘Send OTP’. You will receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
After this choose ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ in the Services tab.
Now select ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’. Here you can update the details you wish to modify.
Aadhaar letter

If you change your Name, Date of Birth, Gender, or address, then you will receive Aadhaar letter again at the address updated in Aadhaar.
