New Delhi: According to the annual ‘Travelopedia 2024’ report by travel tech platform OYO, Hyderabad has emerged as the most-booked city in India for 2024. The report, released on Tuesday, examines travel trends and patterns over the year and provides insights derived from OYO’s vast booking data.
Religious tourism continues to be a top part of the tourism focus in India. As per the report identifies Puri, Varanasi and Haridwar as the top spiritual destinations for 2024 attracting a larger audience of pilgrims each year. Interestingly, emerging destinations like Deoghar, Palani, and Govardhan are experiencing significant growth. These places are gaining popularity as travellers venture beyond the usual spiritual centres.
Hyderabad tops the most-booked city travel trend
Hyderabad, celebrated for its rich history and growing reputation as a tech hub, claimed the title of the most-booked city of the year. Bengaluru, often called the ‘Silicon Valley of India,’ and Delhi, the nation’s capital, followed Hyderabad in the list, while, Kolkata secured fourth place, showcasing its appeal as a cultural epicentre.
Uttar Pradesh also remained at its fixed position as the most travelled state in India for 2024. While, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka also recorded high booking numbers.
Smaller towns like Patna, Rajahmundry, and Hubli have seen a significant rise in travel activity. With booking growth reaching up to 48 per cent year-on-year, these non-metro destinations are gaining more attention from travellers.
Leisure tourism takes a rise
This year has witnessed a strong rise in leisure travel, reflecting a growing enthusiasm among travellers. Jaipur continues to stand out as a popular tourist destination, maintaining consistent visitor interest due to its rich heritage and cultural appeal.
Meanwhile, Goa, Pondicherry, and Mysore remain top choices for those seeking leisure and relaxation, further solidifying their status as favourite getaways. Apart from this, Mumbai has experienced a decline in bookings, with travellers showing a preference for nearby alternatives, indicating a shift in travel patterns toward less crowded destinations.
