New Delhi: Despite being a Mumbai Indians (MI) fan, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has revealed he wants Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 title next year. Varun revealed he is a huge fan of RCB superstar Virat Kohli and genuinely wants the franchise to win their maiden IPL title.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru might be one of the most popular teams in the IPL but are yet to win the elusive trophy. The franchise has been part of the tournament since its inception in 2008 but has failed to go the distance despite having some of the biggest names in world cricket in their ranks over the years. Kohli too is yet to win the IPL since he has never played for any other team in the league.
Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Varun revealed he is a Mumbai Indians fan but desperately wants RCB to win the IPL title. “Mumbai Indians,” replied Varun when asked about his IPL team. “After Mumbai Indians, it’s RCB. I want RCB to win the IPL, I genuinely want them to win,” he added.
However, when asked if he is optimistic about RCB’s chances of winning the trophy in IPL 2025, Varun said no. But the Bollywood star reiterated his wish to see RCB lift the title next season as he is a big fan of Kohli.
“No, not after the auction (If he is optimistic about RCB’s chances in IPL 2025). But It always feels like they are going to win. I want them to win because I am a very big Virat (Kohli) fan,” he added.
Earlier, Varun had spoken about his admiration for Kohli during an appearance on Ranveer Alahabadia’s podcast. He also shared an interesting anecdote involving the Team India superstar, recalling the time when Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma shared insight about the legendary cricketer’s mindset and how he used to blame himself for India’s losses when he was leading the team.
Virat Kohli looks to bounce back in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Kohli is currently in action for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. The star India batter emphatically started the Test series with a century in the opening game at Perth but has since failed in the last two Test matches. Kohli has managed only 21 runs in the last two Test matches combined and has looked far from convincing with the bat.
The Indian batter will be looking to bounce back and get back among the runs for India when the visitors lock horns with Australia in the 4th Test, a Boxing Day encounter at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) starting Thursday, December 25. Bollywood star Varun Dhawan said he genuninely wants Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025 as he is a big fan of Virat Kohli.
