‘I have the skill set’: Sanju Samson wants to play red-ball cricket for India

New Delhi: Sanju Samson performed exceptionally well in the third T20I match against Bangladesh and scored his maiden hundred in the shortest format. The wicketkeeper batter also silenced his critics by showcasing the enormous talent he possesses. Sanju batted brilliantly and hit Taskin Ahmed for four consecutive boundaries. After Taskin, he also took on Rishad Hossain and smashed him for five maximums in an over.

He reached to his fifty in 22 balls and then converted it to his maiden T20I ton in the next 18 balls. He scored the second fastest T20I ton by an Indian batter and also he became the first Indian wicketkeeper batter in history to smash a century in T20I cricket. Samson also scored a century in his last ODI match against South Africa at the Boland Park in Paarl. He played two games in the Duleep Trophy 2024 for India D which is led by Shreyas Iyer and notched up a hundred.

‘I just don’t want to restrict myself to white-ball cricket’: Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson in a media interaction said that he has the skill set to succeed in Test cricket and just don’t want to restrict himself to white-ball cricket. He further added that the leadership group has told him that they’re considering him for red-ball cricket.

“I believe I have the skill set to succeed in red-ball cricket, and I just don’t want to restrict myself to white-ball cricket. My desire is to play Test cricket for India. Before the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group had told me that they were considering me for red-ball cricket and asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches” Samson was quoted as saying by Sportstar on Tuesday.

He also said that after Sri Lanka series he trained at Rajasthan Royals Academy with Rahul Dravid and worked on his game. Sanju further added that the century in the Duleep Trophy has given him a lot of confidence.

“My preparation was good this time around. After the series against Sri Lanka, I trained at the RR (Rajasthan Royals) Academy with Rahul Dravid sir and Zubin Bharucha and worked on my game. The century in the Duleep Trophy has given me a lot of confidence as it came against some of the best bowlers in the country” he added.
