New Delhi: England embark on a tour to Pakistan next month to play three Test matches starting from October 7. Ahead of the start of the tour, a slight change in the schedule has been announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The second Test match, which was supposed to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi has been moved to Multan.
The match will now be played at the Multan cricket stadium stadium on the same date, October 15 to October 19. The opening Test match starts on October 7 to October 11 and will also be played in Multan. Meanwhile, the third and final Test match of the series, from October 24 to October 28 will be played at the Rawalpindi cricket stadium. But why has PCB decided to change the venue?
Why was PCB forced to change the venue
The change in the schedule has taken place because the Karachi cricket stadium is undergoing renovation for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan was decided as the host nation for the showpiece event and since the stadiums in Pakistan were in a dilapidated condition, the cricket board decided to renovate the stadiums ahead of the marquee tournament.
Apart from the Karachi stadium, the Champions Trophy matches will also take place at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore and the Rawalpindi cricket stadium. Both the England and Pakistan cricket teams will arrive in Multan on October 2, almost a week ahead of the start.
“Despite minor adjustments, we are committed to supporting fans and ensuring a memorable tour. We look forward to a fiercely competitive Test series and showcasing Pakistan’s renowned hospitality,” Usman Wahla, PCB Director said. “PCB is thrilled to welcome the England men’s cricket team back to Pakistan,” he added.
