New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has urged Indian fans not to forget wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s brilliant campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 amidst her court battle for the silver medal.
Vinesh was disqualified from her women’s 50 Kg gold medal match as she was overweight by 100 grams and not allowed to compete against USA’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt.
Speaking at the India Open House event, Neeraj said that we know that she would have got the medal if such a situation had not arisen. He also said that if athletes don’t win medals people remember them for some time and then eventually forget them. He requested fans to not forget Vinesh’s contribution to the country.
“All of us know that if she gets the medal it will be really good. She would have got the medal if such a situation did not arise. If we don’t get the medal, people remember us for some time and say we are their champions but if we don’t get the medal they forget us as well…I just want to request people to not forget what Vinesh has done for the country,” Neeraj Chorpa said in an interview at the India Open House.
