New Delhi: The Undertaker is one of the greatest WWE superstars and has delivered many memorable matches on the big stage. However, his final WWE match against AJ Styles left many fans disappointed as it was the last match of his career.
Given his impressive performance over the years, the superstar was under pressure to make that match unforgettable. The Undertaker talked about the pressure he felt to end his career on high.
He also admitted that staying away from the WWE wasn’t easy for him even after his retirement. The Undertaker also revealed that his involvement in the match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns also helped him to cope with the struggle of staying retired.
‘It was not the match my fans liked’: The Undertaker
The Undertaker said that he wanted to have that one match where he could announce his retirement. He also said it was not the match his fans liked.
“I wanted to have that one match I could hang my hat on and say goodbye because my body, I mean, it was breaking down at that point. I can walk and talk and I could get out right now and I could do a match, but it’s not a match that you as an Undertaker fan is like, ‘Ah, that’s not my guy’ The Undertaker said on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast.
The superstar also expressed concern about the fans giving him the benefit of the doubt simply because of his successful and long career and he didn’t want to rely on his achievements to carry him through matches if his performance was not up to the standards.
“They may give me the benefit of the doubt because I’ve got all that equity built up in all those years but I don’t want that … I did not want to become a parody of myself, like, I had too much pride in what I accomplished” he added.
