New Delhi: Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs lit up the Kingsmead stadium in Durban on Friday with trailblazing knocks to put South Africa in absolute command against Sri Lanka on the third day of the first Test match. Both Bavuma and Stubbs smashed powerful centuries as the Proteas gained a commendable lead crossing the 500-run mark in an epic show of excellence in the second innings.
After bowling out Sri Lanka for their lowest-ever Test total of 42, which came in reply to their first innings score of 191, the Proteas batting led by Bavuma and Stubbs pounced on the Lankan bowling notching up special hundreds which put the team in the driving seat. The duo stitched a massive 249-run stand for the third wicket playing a lethal game oof cricket.

Stellar day with the bat for Proteas
It was a stellar day with the bat for the South African team as both Bavuma and Stubbs batted through sessions to strengthen South Africa’s grip in the game. Stubbs, who lost his wicket on 122, became the first South African batter to smash a century in Durban in as many as six years. The rising star of the team smashed nine boundaries and two maximums enroute his special knock, which was his second century in the longest format.
While Stubbs lost his wicket after a masterclass, Bavuma also went back to the pavilion just before Tea after a 1113-run knock which was laced with nine boundaries. For Bavuma, it was his third century in the longest format, which came off 228 deliveries. Meanwhile, Proteas declared the innings at 366/5, setting a dauting 516-run target for Sri Lanka to chase.
