New Delhi: Argentina winger Angel Di Maria has opened up in a tell-tale interview with France Football where he spoke on a wide range of topics. The now 36-year-old joined PSG after enduring a disappointing time with Manchester United back in 2015, calling that move to Paris a ‘re-birth’ for him. The winger had an amazing time at PSG, rediscovering the form he’d shown for Real Madrid after many fans had written him off following his move to Old Trafford.
Di Maria joined the English giants off the back of a wonderful season for Real Madrid where he scored 11 and assisted a whopping 26 goals, guiding them to their ‘La Decima’, putting in a man-of-the-match performance in the final. However, his stay in England was cut short after failing to perform following his big-money move to Manchester.
He only managed to score thrice in the Premier League and while he did manage to notch 10 assists in the league, the Argentine never looked settled while in Manchester. “It has been a complicated year at Manchester where many on-pitch and off-pitch events occurred,” he said while speaking about his year-long stay in Manchester.
The then-United player had to go through an attempted home-jacking at his house and an underwhelming season with the Red Devils saw Louis Van Gaal lose confidence in him. His horrid season continued on an international level as well with Argentina going on to lose the 2015 Copa America final on penalties against Chile.
He cut his stay in England short and moved to PSG in the summer of 2015 where he enjoyed a brilliant spell, playing alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Edinson Cavani, and many others. While looking back at his stay in Paris, he said “I was in a negative spiral and Paris changed my life. I started to feel again like I felt in Madrid.”
He even mentioned how Paris will always hold a special place in his heart, “From the first day, I felt at ease there. I was happy in Paris. I had a French daughter so I will always keep a special link with Paris. I spent seven unforgettable years there for me and my family.”
While the city of Paris will always mean a lot to him cause of personal reasons, the fans of PSG won’t ever forget the Argentine as he enjoyed his most productive spell at the Paris-based club, even spending the most time there. He spent seven years at the club, from 2015-2022 and went on to make 295 appearances for the French giants, scoring 93 goals and providing 119 assists, while winning 19 trophies in his seven-year stay.
The Argentine winger singed for Manchester United on the back of a man of the match performance in Real Madrid’s La Decima victory but didn’t have the best of times in his sole season in England. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
