New Delhi: Barbora Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini by 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the Wimbledon women’s singles final on Saturday. Barbora took 1 hour and 56 minutes to beat Paolini and lifted her maiden Wimbledon title. She also won the French Open in 2021 and it is only her second appearance in the Grand Slam final.
Paolini had the chance to become the first tennis player to win a singles major but had to face heartbreak on Saturday. Earlier this year she also lost the French Open Final against the World no.1 Iga Swiatek.
Krejcikova dominated the first set, who were in confidence after defeating the 2022 champion Elena Rybakina in the semi-final. But Paolini responded in the second set and put the Czech player under pressure. In the last set, both players went neck to neck but Krejcikova emerged as the winner.
After the match, Krejcikova said that it’s the best day of her career and it’s just unbelievable.
“I don’t have any words right now. I don’t have any words. It’s just unbelievable. It’s definitely the best day of my tennis career and also the best day of my life. It’s super difficult to explain what I’m feeling right now” Krejcikova said.
