New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the match officials for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. Richard Illingworth and Nitin Menon will be the on-field umpires for the first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan. Richard Kettleborough will be the TV umpire and Ahsan Raza named as the fourth umpire.
For the second semi-final between India and England, Chris Gaffaney and Rodney Tucker will be the on-field umpires and Joel Wilson named as the TV umpire, with Paul Reiffel in place as the fourth umpire.
Afghanistan will make their maiden T20 World Cup appearance after defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs (DLS) and knocking Australia out of the Tournament. While South Africa defeated hosts West Indies by 3 wickets (DLS) to reach the semi-final.
India reached the semi-final with a 24-run victory against Australia and defending champions England qualified for the semi-final after a dominating 10-wicket victory against the USA. India and England faced each other in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, where Jos Butter & Co. defeated the Men in Blue by 10 wickets.
India and South Africa are the only two unbeaten teams in the tournament. Rohit Sharma & Co. started their T20 World Cup campaign with an 8-wicket victory against Ireland. After that, India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 6 runs in a low-scoring thriller. The Men in Blue defeated USA by 7 wickets in their third group stage match while their fourth group stage game against Canada was abandoned due to the heavy rain in Florida. India’s Super 8 campaign begins with a 47-run win against Afghanistan after that they defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs and Australia by 24 runs
South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in their first match of the tournament. After that, the Proteas defeated Netherlands by 4 wickets. They beat Bangladesh and Nepal in their last two group-stage matches. Aiden Markram and Co. defeated USA by 28 runs in their first Super 8 match. After that, they defeated England by 7 runs and West Indies by 3 wickets (DLS).
