New Delhi: Sri Lanka batter Kamindu Mendis scored 1451 runs across different formats with a mammoth average of above 50. The left-handed batter came into the limelight after his Test performances in 2024 and became a go-to player for Sri Lanka in all formats.

Mendis alone recorded more than 1000 Test runs in 2024 as he scored 1049 runs in nine Tests with an outstanding average of 74.92. Only six players scored more than 1000 Test runs in 2024 and out of six players, Mendis had the highest average and he was the second Asian batter to achieve 1000 Test runs in 2024 after Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The left-handed batter hit five centuries and three half-centuries in 2024 and took Sri Lanka to the top in every match. He also equaled Sir Don Bradman’s record to achieve 1000 Test runs in just 13 innings.

Kamindu Mendis’ memorable performances:

The young batter impressed everyone with his performance against New Zealand in the second Test in Galle. He scored an unbeaten 182 runs in the first innings and helped his side to post a huge total of 602/5 and then Lankan bowlers swept the series 2-0 against New Zealand.

Mendis’ phenomenal batting performances helped Sri Lanka to win important Test matches against New Zealand, Bangladesh, and England. With these wins, Sri Lanka were in the race for the World Test Championship final in 2025 at last but couldn’t qualify for the Final.

Gerhard Erasmus named Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year

Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus was named the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year. The right-hand batter was consistent with the bat throughout 2024 in both T20Is and ODIs.

Erasmus ended the 2024 year with 364 runs and 18 wickets in ODI matches. Meanwhile, he scored 363 runs and picked up 18 wickets in T20Is.

His memorable performance came against Scotland in the ICC T20I World Cup, where he scored 52 runs in 31 balls and then took 2/29 and gave an all-round performance.
