New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the MA Chidambaram Stadium pitch in Chennai, which was used for India’s Test match against Bangladesh, as ‘very good’ while the rest of the home pitches used during the season have been deemed ‘satisfactory’. The three venues used in the Test series against New Zealand – Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune’s Gahunje and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, have managed just ‘satisfactory’ ratings.
In what comes as a shock for Kanpur, the Green park stadium’s outfield has been rated ‘unsatisfactory’ by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe. The poor drainage system at the stadium allowed only two full days of play against the Bangla Tigers and despite the pitch, which was rated ‘satisfactory’, the outfield di not get any brownie points.

Gwalior, Delhi rated very good
The tracks used for the Bangladesh T20Is at Gwalior, Delhi and Hyderabad, which proved to be high-scoring, were rated ‘very good’, as they were perfectly suited for the shortest format requirements. The Indian team management, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and local curators wouldn’t be too delighted to know that former Australia opener David Boon couldn’t rate any of the Test match tracks used against New Zealand beyond ‘satisfactory’.
Meanwhile, the pitch in Bengaluru had a lot of moisture that led to India being bundled out for just 46 runs against the Kiwis while both the tracks in Pune and Mumbai proved out to be rank turners, which didn’t strictly follow the norms prescribed for a ‘Good Test’ match wicket.
