New Delhi: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chair of the men’s cricket committee, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday. Ganguly will head a six-member panel that focuses on enhancing the quality of cricket along with its future prospects around the globe. Ganguly’s most recent assignment was as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which made it to the final earlier this year. The ICC also reappointed VVS Laxman, along with Ganguly, as one of the members of the panel. There’s a surprise addition to the panel as well, in the form of Temba Bavuma, the current ODI and Test captain of South Africa. Other than the troika, the panel includes Hamid Hassan, Desmond Haynes, and Jonathan Trott.
Committee’s role

One of its role is to advise the ICC Board on cricket-related matters such as changes in rules, the playing conditions and even the future development of the game. The panel also looks upon the usage and implementation of modern technology, including the Decision Review System (DRS), and taking a call over illegal bowling actions.
The six-member panel was appointed following the recommendation from Chief Executives Committee of the ICC which also includes form BCCI secretary and ICC chairman Jay Shah. The committee was placed to maintain cricket’s global growth and maintain its continuity at a time when the sport is navigating opportunities and challenges.
Apart from these appointments, the ICC also announced a support initiative for the Afghan women cricketers who are displaced, promising them assistance in every area possible to support their well-being. Now that Ganguly will be continuing his role, with Laxman and active player Bavuma also present, the strength of the committee has only increased, making the mission a success in the years to come.
