PCB confirms ICC’s E-mail on India’s reluctance to travel for Champions Trophy

New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday confirmed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) communicated them India’s message of unwilling to travel for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 through an E-mail, which is scheduled to take place between February and March next year.

Multiple reports suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially told the ICC that they won’t sent the Indian men’s cricket team for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year after consultation with the Government of India.

“The PCB has received an e-mail from the ICC, stating that the BCCI has informed them that their team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” PCB said in a statement.

According to a report from news agency PTI, the PCB is waiting for its own Government to respond.

“The PCB has forwarded that e-mail to the Government of Pakistan for their advice and guidance,” said a PCB spokesperson, as quoted by PTI.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has dismissed the possibility of the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy as its counterpart BCCI has left the last option for the participation of the Indian team. Naqvi said that the ‘Hybrid Model’ was unacceptable to Pakistan.

Where does India want to play their Champions Trophy fixtures?

India wants all of their fixtures to be scheduled in the UAE and even the India-Pakistan marquee to be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

No Indian team has team travelled to Pakistan for the last decade-and-a-half. MS Dhoni’s India was the last team to visit the neighbouring country for the 2008 Asia Cup. On the other hand, Pakistan has travelled to India twice for multi-nation tournaments such as the 2016 T20 World Cup and 2023 World Cup.

India didn’t even travelled to Pakistan for last year’s Asia Cup (held in 50-over format), forcing the Asian Cricket Council to conduct the continental event in hybrid model with Sri Lanka being made the co-host.
