New Delhi: Legendary West Indian cricketer Brian has named two Indian cricketers who can break his 400 runs record. His 400 runs in an innings remains the highest individual score with no current player close to breaking the record.
During the fourth and final test match against England in 2004, Brian Lara scripted history and smashed 400 runs off 583 balls, including 43 boundaries and four maximums in the first innings. But the match ended in a draw and England clinched the four-match Test series by 3-0.
The former cricketers Matthew Hayden, Chris Gayle and Mahela Jayawardene came close but failed to surpass his record. Lara also talked about the players who challenged his record and said “There were players in my time who challenged, or at least went past the 300 mark – Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Sanath Jayasuriya. They were pretty much aggressive players” Lara told The Daily Mail.
‘Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal could break my record’: Brian Lara
Lara said that there are not many aggressive players playing the game today. He picked Zak Crawley and Harry Brook from the England team and Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill from Team India who can break his record. He said that if the situation is right these four players can break his record.
“How many aggressive players do you have playing today? Especially in the England team. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook. Maybe in the Indian team? Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill. If they find the right situation, the records could be broken – both of them” Lara said to The Daily Mail.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made a brilliant start to his Test career, scoring 1028 runs in nine matches at an average of 68.53. He also scored three centuries and four half-centuries in the longest format. While Shubman Gill also scored 1492 runs in 25 Test matches at an average of 35.52. He also has four hundred and six fifties to his name.
