New Delhi: Shakib Al Hasan entered history books on Saturday in the T20 World Cup 2024 super 8 clash between India and Bangladesh in Antigua. Shakib became the first player to register 50 wickets in the history of the showpiece event after dismissing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
After put into bat first, Rohit and Virat Kohli started off well for the Men in Blue playing some fine shots off the Bangladesh bowling. Shakib, who proved to be expensive in his first over after being hit for 15 runs, came out stronger in the next over and picked the most crucial wicket for the Bangla Tigers. Rohit, who was looking good in his cameo fell victim to Shakib after scoring 23 runs off just 11 balls, which included three fours and a lone six.

After picking the wicket, Shakib achieved the historic feat of becoming the first bowler in T20 World Cup history take fifty wickets. If that happens, the 37-year-old will also be the first to take 150 scalps and score 2500 runs in T20Is.
Meanwhile, winning this encounter becomes important for the Bangladesh side as they have already lost their opening super 8 fixture against Australia.
