New Delhi: Defending champion Iga Swiatek and seventh-ranked Elena Rybakina won their respective Round of 16 matches to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open 2025 in Doha on Wednesday. World no.2 Swiatek survived a scare to bet Czech Linda Noskova in the last 16 while Rybakina thrashed Rebecca Sramkova in straight sets.

A three-time champion in the Qatar Open, Swiatek continued her dominant run at the tournament where she has lost just once so far in the last four editions. The world no.2 lost the first set 6-7 (1) against Noskova on Wednesday but fought back to beat the Czech 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-4 and enter the quarter-finals. Swiatek will face Rybakina, who beat Sramkova 7-6 (1), 6-2.

Rybakina recorded a comfortable straight-sets victory against Sramkova but will now renew her rivalry against world no.2 Swiatek. The quarter-final between Rybakina and Swiatek will be a rematch of the Qatar Open 2024 final where the Pole got the better of current world no.7 to win her third title in a row.

However, Rybakina leads 4-3 in the head-to-head meeting between the duo. Swiatek defeated Rybakina in the last meeting between the two at the United Cup. The quarter-final clash between the duo is expected to be another cracker of a contest on Thursday.
