‘I’m done’: MMA legend Demetrious Johnson announces retirement from combat sports

New Delhi: The best flyweight fighter on the Planet Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson put his gloves down and announced his retirement from MMA. The ONE Championship Flyweight champion announced his retirement at the ONE 168 event on September 7, Saturday. Johnson finished his long 18 years of MMA career by winning multiple titles at different MMA promotions.

Johnson was seen emotional in his farewell speech and thanked the crowd for how fans made him a better person. He also praised ONE Championship and his whole team for their continuous support of him. He also announced his retirement when he came last time to The Ball Arena in Colorado, Denver.

Johnson is one of the greatest MMA fighters in the history of sports and he is a former UFC champion and Champion in ONE Championship. His record says it all with 27 wins with only 3 losses in his MMA career. He made his UFC debut in 2011, Johnson won his first major title in the UFC at UFC 152 against Joseph Benavidez. After that, he went on to win 11 consecutive bouts and defended his belt all the time.

. I’m done, I’m done competing in mixed martial arts, and I would like to thank you guys for giving me the opportunity. I appreciate you guys.” Johnson in his farewell speech.

Henry Cejudo defeated Johnson and ended his dream run and after that loss, Mighty Mouse’s terms with UFC president Dana White also got worse, and he quit UFC and joined the ONE Championship promotion. In his debut match in the ONE Championship, he got the opportunity to fight against the Flyweight champion, but he was Knocked out by Adriano Moraes.

After a year he got an opportunity to rematch against Moraes but this time Johnson proved to everyone why he was the greatest Flyweight fighter in history. He knocked out Moraes and won the ONE flyweight Championship. Johnson finished the trilogy with Moraes by beating him again last year and it was called as one of the best trilogies in MMA.
