Incessant rain across Andhra Pradesh throw normal life out of gear

Heavy rain lashed various parts of Andhra Pradesh including in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Godavari districts, resulting in waterlogged roads, crop damage and general inconvenience to the residents on Friday.

Godavari river is in spate with roads washed away in P Gannavaram village and many others are cut off due to floods. Four other villages Vudumudi Lanka, Arigilavanipeta, Boorgu Lanka, G Pedapudi lanka were affected in Konaseema district.

In Anakapalle district, the water level of Kalyanapule reservoir has reached its brim with the district administration lifting two gates of the reservoir. Officials alerted people residing in low-lying areas.

Minister Achchennaidu spoke to Collector Swapnil Dinakar on the torrential rains across Srikakulam district. All officers were ordered to be available and fishermen are advised not to go fishing. They were advised to utilize NDRF personnel for relief operations.

Due to heavy rains, streams and lakes are overflowing in Vizianagaram district. Holiday was declared for many educational institutions in the district.

Unrelenting rains lashed Krishna district with massive flooding at Prakasam Barrage. 3,000 cusecs are being released from the barrage through the well and officials alerting people in low-lying areas. Due to rains, holiday declared for educational institutions in Krishna and NTR districts.

Water levels are increasing gradually for Pulichinthala project. The full level of the project is 175 feet and the current water level is 100 feet.

In East Godavari district, more than 12,000 hectares of land were destroyed in Konaseema, Kakinada districts.

At Dowaleswaram Cotton Barrage in Rajahmundry, the water level is at 7.8 feet while 1,800 cusecs of water is being released to Eastern, central and western River deltas. 3,90,000 cusecs of water is being released into the sea.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken stock of the situation and asked officials to take steps to safeguard the lives of people. He conducted a conference with Collectors and SPs of districts affected by rain and asked them to plan in advance to mitigate loss of life.

IMD issues rain alert:

Very heavy rain is likely in many districts over North coastal AP, Yanam, South Coastal AP while thunderstorm accompanies with lightning are likely in the places mentioned above along with Rayalaseema. IMD issued orange alert to three districts namely, Alluri Sitharamaraju, Eluru, West Godavari.

The well-marked low pressure area over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north AP coasts has concentrated into a depression, the IMD said.
