Telugu Desam Party (TDP) General Secretary and Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh said that Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh will continue despite the opposition from its ally BJP.
In an interview to NDTV news channel, Lokesh said that 4 percent job reservation for Muslims that has been in place for the last 20 years is social justice and not appeasement.
“It’s social justice. It is nothing but social justice. It’s a fact that minorities continue to suffer. It is a fact that they have the lowest per capita income. As a government it is my responsibility to bring them out of poverty. Whatever decision I take, it’s not about appeasement, it’s about bringing them out of poverty.
In my own Assembly constituency, I discussed it with minority leaders. We want to establish a training centre for them. We want to expose them to the opportunities the world has to offer so that they can come out of the cycle of poverty. If you want to make the nation a developed nation, you cannot leave anyone behind. We will continue to take everyone together,” he said.
The TDP leader also stated that the party’s focus will be on creating jobs and uplifting marginalised people in the state.
He also stated that the party has not sought the Lok Sabha speaker post and that they want funds for the state of Andhra Pradesh. “Our interest is the state’s interest. We want to be a part of the $5 trillion economy dream.”
TDP won 135 Assembly seats out of 175 while the majority mark is 88. Jana Sena won 21 seats and BJP won 8 seats in the AP Legislative Assembly. YSRCP could win only 11 seats in the Assembly.
