Kanpur: Incessant rain forced early Stumps on Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The visiting team is placed at 107 for 3 in 35 overs in their first innings after Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first in overcast conditions.
Bangladesh managed to score 33 runs in 9 overs bowled after lunch and lost the wicket of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (31). Soon after the dismissal, players walked off due to bad light. Mushfiqur Rahim (6) and Mominul Haque (40) were at the crease when play was stopped by the umpires.
The match was delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield following overnight rain in Kanpur. The toss happened at 10 am local time and the play began at 10.30 am. Bangladesh lost two wickets in the first session in the form of openers Zakir Hasan (0) and Shadman Islam (24). Both wickets were bagged by Akash Deep.
As expected, the bounce and seam movement troubled Zakir and Shadman Islam (24). While Islam worked the ball around Hasan (0) couldn’t get going.
Haque and Shanto steadied the Bangladesh innings with a 51-run stand for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by R Ashwin in the second innings.
Ashwin trapped Shanto in the third over of the second session, beating the batter with a straighter one. The umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger as the Bangladesh skipper wasted a review with a poor DRS call.
Shanto 31 (57 balls, 4×6) batted with positive intent but couldn’t capitalise on the good start.
India crushed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the opening Test of the two-match series at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After just nine overs in the second session, bad light stopped play despite the floodlights taking full effect in the stadium, forcing the players off the field. Soon after, it started pouring.
Brief Score: Bangladesh 1st innings: 107 for 3 in 35 overs (Mominul Haque 40 not out; Akash Deep 2/34) vs India.
IND vs BAN: Only 35 overs of play was possible on Day 1 which was already delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield following overnight rain in Kanpur. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
