IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Kanpur weather: Can rain end India’s hopes of a historic win?

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma-led India will be hoping to secure a historic win on Day 5 of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh on Tuesday, October 01 after a sensational batting display on Monday. India switched to T20 mode in their first innings to score an impressive 285 runs in just 34.4 overs in their first innings against the visitors to amass a healthy lead of 52 runs in the rain-affected Test match.

The Kanpur Test appeared to be heading for a draw after only 35 overs of action were possible on the first three days with rain playing spoilsport. Bangladesh could bat only 35 overs in their first innings on the opening day of the Test match before the next two days were washed out without a ball being bowled. However, India’s terrific batting on Day 4 has instilled life once again in the Test match.

India dominated the proceedings on Day 4 as the bowlers led by the fabulous Jasprit Bumrah bundled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in their first innings before skipper Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for a sensational batting effort from India. The duo shared a 55-run stand for the first wicket inside just 3.5 overs.

Rohit scored a quickfire 23 off just 11 balls laced with 3 sixes and a four while Jaiswal slammed a brilliant 72 off just 51 balls with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes. The likes of Virat Kohli (47 off 35) and KL Rahul (68 off 43) contributed to India’s cause as the hosts not only managed to overhaul Bangladesh’s first innings total on the same day but also amassed a lead of 55 runs by posting 285/9 (declared) on the board.

Bangladesh then lost two quick wickets to get reduced to 26/2 at stumps at the end of Day 4. India now have a strong chance to pull off a historic win in the Test match if they can bowl out the visitors quickly on Day 5 and chase down the target set by them.

Kanpur weather report on Day 5 of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test:

However, rain threatens India’s chances of pulling off a sensational victory in the Kanpur Test. Even if there is slight rain, Kanpur’s drainage system which has already come under the scanner, might let the hosts down. However, much to the respite of the Indian team and their fans, the forecast is clear on Day 5 of the 2nd Test on Tuesday.

As per Weather.com, there is only a 12% chance of rain in Kanpur during the course of the match on Tuesday. It is less than the 20% chance of rain on Monday where the play remained unaffected. It is set to be a hotter day in Kanpur with the maximum temperature expected to rise to 33°C.

India vs Bangladesh, Day 5 Kanpur weather report: With Bangladesh still trailing by 26 runs, India will be hoping to skittle out the visitors quickly in their second innings on Day 5 and chase down the target to pull off an unlikely win.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
