IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Kanpur weather report: Will rain force another washout on Day 4?

New Delhi: Fans will be hoping for action to finally resume after a frustrating first three days in the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Day 3 of the Test match was abandoned on Sunday without a ball being bowled due to a wet outfield despite no rain in Kanpur.

With rain not hampering the proceedings, there was expectation of play on Day 2 but the poor drainage facilities at the ground meant the wet patches couldn’t be dried in time. Only 35 overs of action has been possible on the first three days of the 2nd Test between the two teams as the threat continues to loom large over a complete washout which will result in the game getting drawn.

However, there is some good news for the fans ahead of Day 4’s play at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. As per weather.com, there is only a 20% chance of rain on Monday. However, the major challenge will be for the ground staff to ensure proper drainage and a dry outfield for play to resume in the Test match on Monday.

UPCA and BCCI slammed for poor drainage facilities in Kanpur

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been slammed by many for the poor draining system and maintenance of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur which is one of the oldest Test centres in the country. UPCA had earlier said it was well prepared with a rain forecast ahead of the 2nd Test.

However, the authorities failed to ensure any play on Day 3 despite no rain as there was no proper system to dray the wet patches inside the ground. The BCCI has also been criticised by many for giving the hosting rights to Kanpur for the 2nd Test despite the stadium being poorly maintained. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department had deemed the upper block of the C Stand of the stadium ‘unfit’ to be utilised to its full capacity, raising concerns.

After three days of rain playing spoilsport in the Test match, the fans will be hopeful of action resuming on Monday. India were well positioned to clean sweep the two-match series 2-0 after their thumping win in Chennai. However, the hosts might not be able to pull off a second straight victory in Kanpur after no action in the last couple of days.
